Planning Experience
Dr. King's has experience directing
science, mathematics and engineering programs for students
enrolled in middle school to the Ph.D. level as well as programs
focused on career development and students at-risk.
--Program for Minority Engineering Students - University of
Houston, Developed and implemented minority engineering program
(PROMES). Designed and implemented student assistant program
resulting in increased retention and academic performance of
minority engineering. Expanded placement contacts with over 80
companies resulting in increased Co-op, summer and full-time
employment opportunities for minority students.
--The National Center For Graduate Education For Minorities -
University of Notre Dame, Ph.D. Science and Engineering
Programs. Directed the scheduling and operation of all
management functions including program development, liaison with
universities and school districts. Conducted over 300 workshops
and seminars on graduate education and other topics. Developed
proposal for nationwide teleconference on --Why Graduate
School.--Secured funding and participation of 500 universities.
--Massachusetts Pre-Engineering Program (MassPEP) - Director of
School and Educational Programs. Conducted seminars for minority
students in grades 9-12 on technical science-based education
within the Boston and Cambridge School Districts. Cultivated
industry/business and college/university resources. Supervised
Summer Technical Intern Program placing 200 students in
technically oriented positions within the Greater Boston Area.
Coordinated workshops, planning, training sessions, seminars,
staff development and technical assistance for school staff.
--Cuyahoga Community College - Evaluator of Middle College
Program linked to Cleveland Public Schools.
--Midwest Sex Desegregation Assistance Center - Kansas State
University, Developed and administered Center policies,
procedures and budget allocations. Supervised staff specialist
activities in providing technical assistance, staff development
and Center publication dissemination to eighty-six school
districts in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri. Designed,
implemented and evaluated training programs, workshops, seminars
and regional conferences to reflect the desegregation needs of
client districts and Center priorities.
--Communities In Schools Houston, Inc. - Managed city-wide
intervention program impacting over 3000 Houston Independent
School District Students. Responsible for programs, procedures
and $2.5 million budget. Supervised 70 employees.
--Texas Southern University - Served on the president's
executive team and was responsible for leading operations of
Career Development Center; Coordinated the visitation of 300
employer/graduate school visitations per year; Produced and
hosted radio talk show --Your Future is Your Career--and
designed and wrote Career Placement Manual.
